Te Kauika Tapuwae Ō Tāngaroa
Our vision is the renewal of inherent responsibility at a planetary scale, grounded in the Pacific - Aotearoa and extending to the world. PIRI exists to carry Mana Tuku Iho - inherent authority into global spaces — not as advocacy or symbolism, but as a Mataora, a living system of knowledge, governance, and guardianship capable of responding to the long-term challenges facing humanity.
We envision a world in which peoples of original lineage and responsibility are no longer positioned at the margins of global decision-making, but are recognised as holders of mātauranga ora - civilisational knowledge essential to the survival, balance, and continuity of life on Earth. A world where Tūpuna Mātauranga - ancestral intelligence informs how societies relate to land, ocean, climate, technology, and one another.
Rooted in the Pacific — Aotearoa, the largest ocean and one of Earth’s primary regulators — PIRI understands that what occurs here reverberates globally. Our vision therefore extends beyond regional interests toward planetary coherence, where land, ocean, cosmos, and sky are understood as interdependent living systems, rather than separate or extractable domains.
At the heart of this vision is the restoration of guardianship as a global ethic. Guardianship requires restraint, humility, and accountability to life itself. It is not power over the world, but responsibility within it. PIRI stands at the intersection of ancestral continuity and global future, carrying Pacific inherent authority outward — not to dominate or replace, but to re-balance. Our vision is not confined to a region or a moment in time; it is oriented toward the enduring wellbeing of the Earth and all who live upon it.
