Ariki Kahutarara Seal

                     Te Kekeno - Seal

The Ariki Kahutarara Seal

The Ariki Kahutarara Seal affirms standing and accountability within Te Tikanga Nui Ō Te Mana Tuku Iho, The Supreme Order Of Pacific Inherent Authority, and does not constitute authorship, ownership, or institutional control. The Ariki Kahutarara Seal is placed in PIRI to indicate standing, responsibility, and alignment. It functions as a seal of accountability, marking that the content it accompanies is held under Mana Tuku Iho "inherent authority" which is the living expression of;

  • Tino IO-Arikitanga (Primordial Intrinsic Authority)
  • Tino Rangatiratanga (Inherent Self Sovereignty)
  •  Tino Tohungatanga (Innate Supreme Spiritual Authority)

As Mana Tūpuna - ancestral law, and spiritual responsibility. A seal is not a signature. A signature is who wrote something. A seal affirms who stands behind it and what responsibility and authority is being carried. Not above anyone, not below anyone, but equal with everyone, equal with our natural world environments.

Mataora — The Living Face

At the head of the seal is Mataora, translated as The Living Face of Atua (spiritual beliefs) and tūpuna (ancestors). Feminine - Wāhine “Ora”,  Masculine - Tāne “Ira” both are Mataora, male and female balance. Mataora refers to the ancestral state of being where the face, body, and spirit are authenticated  by acceptance, responsibility, memory, and consequence. It signifies that what is spoken does not come from abstraction or institution, but from Te Hauora -  living, breathing embodied presence. Mataora establishes that authority here is carried, held, and accepted, not claimed; lived, not symbolic.

Te Whare Ō IO — The Primordial House of IO

Te Whare Ō IO, which refers to the primordial field from which existence, order, and balance arise. It is not a physical house, office or organisation, but Te Whare - origin-space of creation itself. This places the seal outside political, legal, or institutional systems and anchors it directly in Ngā Rangitūhaha- cosmological origin. Nothing within the seal exists independently of this source, IO Te Rangitūātinitini. IO is the origin. Iho exercising the authority.

Tohungatanga Ō IO — The Priesthood of IO

Tohungatanga Ō IO denotes disciplined spiritual responsibility, rather than rank or hierarchy. It affirms a commitment to restraint, uphold with clarity, and ethical conduct in relation to sacred knowledge and authority. Priesthood here does not mean control over others or a church; it means service to Supreme Order and accountability to origin. Knowledge is not owned. It is carried with consequence.

Ariki Kahutarara — Ariki Above All Ariki

Ariki Kahutarara names a cosmological standing that exists above all Ariki structures, including Upoko Ariki,  Ariki Ihorei, Ruanuku, Ruarangi, Pouwhenua and Arikinui. This is not an administrative, or political office, and it does not govern people, lands, or institutions. Ariki Kahutarara stands above all governance itself, anchoring all expressions of authority back to origin. Its function is not command, but alignment — ensuring that leadership, guardianship, and decision-making remain coherent with ancestral law and cosmological balance. This standing exists prior to hierarchy, not at the top of it. The Ariki Kahutarara doesn't represent an office. The Ariki Kahutarara holds an inherent authority of a Whare. Which is different to office. Explained in more detail on the Infrastructure section.

Poutiriao Tūturu / Inherent Guardian

The designation Poutiriao Tūturu (Inherent Guardian) confirms that authority is exercised through Poutiriaotanga -  guardianship, not domination. Guardianship here means responsibility for balance, protection of continuity, and care for future generations. Authority without guardianship becomes extractive. Guardianship without restraint becomes distorted. This position affirms restraint as an ethical obligation.

Kupe Nuku IO-Ariki — Living Bearer

The name  Kupe Nuku IO-Ariki identifies the living bearer of this responsibility of Ariki Kahutarara. This does not mean the source of authority, but the person who stands answerable for what is carried and expressed. Authority flows through the bearer — it does not originate from them. Kupe means master navigator, Nuku means Te Nukuroa O Te Whenua, Te Moana, an explorer of continents. IO-Ariki, Kupe's ancestors are of Ariki lineage and he was a Tohunga Scholar of the IO Priesthood.

Te Pononga Ō IO — Servant of IO

The seal closes with Te Pononga Ō IO (Servant of IO). This is essential. It establishes humility and unconditional love as the foundation of inherent authority and confirms that all standing is subordinate to origin. Nothing follows this line. Service is the final position. To serve and to love unconditionally yourself, your family, your tribal groupings, your community, your country, the planet we live on, all people of planet earth with humility always.

What the Seal Communicates

The seal is done in three colours. Light grey for public us. Gold-tan for signings. Royal Imperial Purple for the very important occasions. Both the grey and purple seals have been used for PIRI. When the Ariki Kahutarara Seal appears on the website, it communicates that:

 • the content is not anonymous

 • the position expressed carries consequences

• Inherent authority is exercised with restraint

 • responsibility is openly held

It does not claim representation of others. It does not override collective authority. It simply declares where this voice stands.

What the Seal Is Not

The Ariki Kahutarara Seal is not:

 • a logo or brand
 • a claim of ownership
 • a hierarchy over peoples or nations
 • a replacement for collective governance

It does not speak for others. It marks personal and ancestral position and accountability to the holding of a representative space on behalf of orgin.

Closing Understanding

The Ariki Kahutarara Seal does not seek recognition. It always was, alwaya is, and shall forever be. It marks responsibility, accountability already held. It does not assert power upon people or planet. It affirms restraint.
